Ombre Candlesticks

Hello. A friend of mine was getting rid of some stuff one day and asked me if I wanted these huge column candlesticks.  They’ve been sitting on my buffet for a few years now. One afternoon, I decided they weren’t really doing it for me and they needed a little pizazz. So I got out my Heirloom Traditions paints and Aurora Staining Gel and proceeded to do just that.

PicMonkey Collagetvg

The first one I painted in Alexandrite Chalk Type Paint by Heirloom Traditions, “a gorgeous gem stone green chalk type paint with a touch of teal.”

Alexandrite TVG

The next one I painted with the color Synergy Chalk Type Paint by Heirloom Traditions, a happy bright aqua. I adore this color. It’s one of my favorite blues.

The third one I painted with Aqueduct Chalk Type Paint. “If Mint Green and Teal Green had a baby, it would be Aqueduct.  Its a bright aqua green chalk type paint with minty tones.”

Next I used Aurora Staining Gel in the color Snow White as a glaze. I brushed it on and wiped it back. Then I distressed them with 150 grit sandpaper and I love them. They have a fun, beachy vibe now.

Seven Color Distressed Table

Hello. I painted this little table this past weekend and wanted to share it with you. I used seven different colors in the Heirloom Traditions and Vintiques Chalk Type Paint lines.

rpm

For the first coat I used Heirloom Traditions Direct Green (my absolute favorite green), followed with Heirloom Traditions Synergy, Alexandrite and random streaks of Vintiques Ol’ Navy and Sail Away.

Then I painted the entire table in Vintiques Engine No.9, a wonderfully vibrant red. After that I added Mandarin to sections of the table and then I heavily distressed the entire piece with my Black and Decker Mouse Sander using 120 grit sandpaper allowing a parade of colors to peek through.

For the topcoat I used my favorite satin topcoat by Vintiques. I love this stuff. It goes on so smoothly, enhances and deepens the paint colors and levels excellently, leaving a perfect finish! And it’s waterbased for easy cleanup!

Salon Station Makeover Madness

Hello. I recently did a big project I’d like to share with you.

I met Leighanne Bice, the owner of Elite Salon in Clanton, AL and she asked me about tracking down and painting some salon stations for her salon. I said “Sure!” and went to looking. My first thought, in search of that many matching pieces, was to possibly find a hotel that was redecorating, which is easier said than done. I went to a couple of spots and then got super lucky at Prattville Pickers. They had 11 matching large end tables from the Auburn Marriott Opelika Hotel & Conference Center at Grand National that was being renovated. SCORE!

Thee Velvet GloveWe added wood and brackets and legs. This was a chore, but they turned out great. I was really pleased with the results!

More prep. Thee Velvet GloveLeighanne and I discussed color schemes and settled on gray with black glaze, gold drawers and mercury glass and clear glass knobs. I put on a coat of primer then used Thunderous Chalk Type Paint from Heirloom Traditions custom mixed with a bit of Vintiques Chantilly, also by Heirloom Traditions, to get the shade of grey Leighanne wanted and went to painting.

Thee Velvet GloveAfter one or two pieces I knew my back was in for it so I ran up to Home Depot and got this little (magical, life saving) Wagner Home Decor Paint Sprayer for $79.97 (no compressor needed!). I thinned the paint a little and started spraying. I cannot say enough wonderful things about this paint and thinned with water by 10%, it sprayed like a dream. Leveled wonderfully!

Thee Velvet GloveDrawers galore! Thee Velvet GloveThee Velvet GloveThee Velvet GloveThee Velvet GloveAnd then Jet Black Spray Wax by Heirloom Traditions in the crevices for detail. I love the richness that JBSW adds!

Easy Spring Decor – Painting and Distressing Glass Bottles with Heirloom Traditions Chalk Type Paint

In recent posts I’ve painted plastic, pleather and now glass. Want to add some pops of color to your home without the commitment? Have any old bottles laying around? I scored these for free at a yard sale. Crown Royal makes the prettiest bottles! I pulled the labels off, cleaned the sticky goo and took my paintbrush to them. I love how they turned out. You can use them in a bathroom, entry way, bedroom, grouped with flowers as a centerpiece. Weddings, Baby Showers, etc. Lots of options!

Thee Velvet Glove - Painting Glass BottlesThee Velvet Glove - Painting Glass BottlesI used Heirloom Traditions Chalk Type Paint in the colors Posh Pink, a Signature Color by White Lace Cottage, Sand (My favorite neutral), Begonia, Direct Green, Mandarin, Synergy, Vintiques Mint Julep, and sealed them all with Muddy Pond Spray Wax by Heirloom Traditions. I put two coats of paint on each bottle and distressed them with 220 grit sandpaper. Muddy Pond Wax is my go to. It adds just enough color to add dimension without making pastels look too dirty.

Below are a couple of short videos showing how easy it is:

Before and After:

Thee Velvet Glove - Painting Glass BottlesI got these strips of pearls stickers below at a craft store. I used them on the bottle I painted in the color “Sand” by Heirloom Traditions.

Frame Makeover – Two Different Looks

Hello! Just a short little post showing two different looks for this thrift store frame I bought.

Heirloom Traditions Paint sent me the color Pulled Taffy in their Vintiques Chalk Type Paint line to try out along with some Tea Stained Taupe Spray Wax.

Pulled TaffyI went to hunting something I could paint with this fun powdery, purplish, pink. I came upon this frame. It was gorgeous so I grabbed it.

Frame BeforeI put on two coats to cover this dingy gold.

be5Pulled Taffy with Tea Stained Taupe Spray WaxBefore and AfterI repainted it in Olympic Gold by Modern Masters and added a piece of metal which I painted with Raven, also by Vintiques to create a magnetic chalkboard for custom piece. I love how they both turned out. Two completely different looks.

My Favorite Color Combo Recipes

It can be difficult sometimes to visualize paint colors and finishing products together. In fact, it can be difficult to decide on a color alone. There are so many wonderful products out there to choose from. Sometimes, I throw caution to the wind, but most times I do a sample board. Today I thought I’d share some test boards I’ve done of my favorite color combinations from Heirloom Traditions and Vintiques Chalk Type Paint lines with links to the products. I hope you enjoy and possibly find some inspiration.

Because every girl needs a little leopard in her life.

Thee Velvet GloveRecently I asked the question on my Facebook page, “What finish or technique would you like to see a blog post about?” The majority of the answers were decoupage, then layering. I decided to do a decoupage post and show how easy it is with 1GEL by Heirloom Traditions Products. It’s an amazing transfer and decoupage all-in-one medium. I started out with a king size headboard pictured below. Pretty, right? But lacked the WOW factor I was looking for.

beforeSo I decided to GLAM it up! First, I flipped it over and removed the inserts.

Thee Velvet GloveThen, out came the paint, paper and gold! First, I painted the entire headboard in Black Bean Chalk Type Paint by Heirloom Traditions.

black-bean-300x278__15404.1446061080.1000.1200Thee Velvet GloveThen I took the inserts, sanded them lightly with 220 grit sandpaper and attached this awesome, metallic, leopard print paper that I cut to size. I did another piece using this same paper here.

Thee Velvet GloveI simply applied the 1GEL to the back of the paper with my brush, placed the paper on and smoothed it out with a dry staining sponge and a brayer. I let it dry overnight.

Thee Velvet GloveThen I took Metallic Master Golden Glimmer Gilding Patina by Heirloom Traditions to the headboard and used it as a glaze. There really is no right or wrong way to apply. I just slather it on and wipe back with a damp rag. The gold stays down in the crevices. YUMMY!! Metallic Masters Gilding Patinas are metallic gel top coats. You can apply them to chalk type or milk painted surfaces. You are also sealing your paint with a durable finish. A lot of bang for your buck!
