Aurora Staining Gels on Raw Wood

This little chair was rough and I mean rough, but I like it’s rough and toughness. I sanded it some so I wouldn’t get splinters and got my Aurora Staining Gels out.  I wanted to keep the rustic feel of this chair. I wanted to experiment more with them on raw wood. It was a match made in heaven. If your piece has any varnish on it you’ll need to remove that before applying Aurora Staining Gels. 16I used Aurora Staining Gels in the colors Cherry Bomb, Island Paradise and I’m Jaded. I put the Cherry Bomb on first. It comes in these great squirt bottles! So easy to use!

unnamedaI brushed it on random places of the chair.

redaThen I added the Island Paradise.

3aaThen I put a coat of I’m Jaded over the entire chair. After it dried, I distressed it back some and I’m really please with the outcome.

Happy New Year!! – Table featuring Vintiques “Mint Julep”

Good morning and HaPpY NeW YeAr!!!! I think this table has the most products I’ve ever used on one little piece. LOL. I broke down the the products and the process I used below. I love the end result. You can never really go wrong with mint!

Thee Velvet Glove featuring Vintiques Mint JulepThe color I used for the base of the table is Vintiques Mint Julep. For the top coat on the base I used Aurora Staining Gels in Island Paradise. The carvings were painted in layers including Vintiques French Blue, then Heirloom Traditions Synergy and finally Heirloom Traditions Sand. I then took some 220 grit sandpaper and distressed the Sand back a little to reveal the French Blue and Synergy underneath.

Thee Velvet Glove featuring Vintiques Mint JulepFor the shading I used Vintiques Spray Wax in Antiqued Brown, (I poured it in a dish and used a small brush to get in the crevices around the outside of the carvings where dust and dirt would normally rest) then added some Aurora Staining Gel in Copper Mine, Mellow Yellow and a little Aging Dust. The Copper Mine over the Mellow Yellow gives off a gold color. Wala! All done.

Table featuring Aurora Staining Gels by Heirloom Traditions

Are y’all ready to get messy and have some fun? Heirloom Traditions has a product called Aurora Staining Gels and there are 20 colors! They’re gorgeous and so much fun to use! I had this table I picked up a few months ago and the finish on the top was in pretty bad shape so I thought it would be a great piece to try them on. After sanding the top down, I went for it. I used my hands and then a brush. 🙂

The staining gels come in a squirt bottle. YAY!! You just squirt them on in any pattern you want and play with them until you are satisfied with the look. I used Mellow Yellow, Island Paradise, Snow White and Cherry Bomb. When those colors are blended together you get several other colors. The possibilities are endless. They are available to purchase as a set or single bottles. They are non-toxic and VOC free. Kid friendly! Plus, they are water based so easy clean up! The icing on the cake? No top coat needed! For the base of the table I used Heirloom Traditions Chalk Type paint in the color Sand and finished in Muddy Pond Soft Wax.
